1. Learners: The learners are mostly 8th grade students (there a 2 9th grade students), 3-4 students on IEP's, 3 students on 504's, and 3 ELL students. There is a combination of visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners represented within the three sections of students.
  2. Lesson Objectives: to be able to find the theoretical and experimental probability and understand the difference between the two and to be able to find the probability of independent and dependent compound events
  3. Learning Environment: The classroom will be structured in small groupings of desks where students will be able to conduct experiments, organize data, and plan presentations. We will also be using the computer lab and media center when researching data for the reports and also typing them. Students will use computers to make a power point presentation or download video of their project.
  4. Assessment: The information learned from the lessons will be assessed in a traditional test. The vocabulary terms will be assessed as a power point project which will be 50% of the formal assessment grade. It will be graded on a rubric.
  5. Math Standards: 9.4.2.3 Design simple experiments and explain the impact of sampling methods, bias and the phrasing of questions asked during data collection. 9.4.3.2 Calculate experimental probabilities by performing simulations or experiments involving a probability model and using relative frequencies of outcomes.

  6. Technology Standards: Students will

  • 1a apply existing knowledge to generate new ideas, products, or processes.

  • 1c use models and simulations to explore complex systems and issues.

  • 2a interact, collaborate, and publish with peers, experts, or others employing a variety of digital environments and media.

  • 3b locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media.

  • 4b plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project.

  • 5b exhibit a positive attitude toward using technology that supports collaboration, learning, and productivity.

  • 6a understand and use technology systems.

  • 6b select and use applications effectively and productively.
