Day One: Section 4-5 Applying Ratios to Probability

Objective: to find and define theoretical probability and experimental probability

Learning Environment: The desks in the classroom will be clustered into small groups (3-4).

Presentation: Using the Promethean Activboard, I will present the definitions and basic concepts of probability. We will also conduct an interactive activity from the website Shodor Spinner and complete a worksheet coordinating with the web activity.

Activity/Homework: Students will have a choice of conducting a simulation with either coin toss or dice throw and fill out a worksheet due the next day. They will also complete a book assignment (pg 214 2-38evens). Number 38 asks students to explain the difference between theoretical probability and experimental probability. They will also have to provide an example of both.

This lesson integrates two technologies: interactive whiteboard and an interactive website. Differentiation is present in the form of student choice of medium for the simulation experiment. The visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learner are also addressed in this lesson. There are computer-based simulations on the interactive website listed above.
